Architecture and the Arts and Crafts Movement in Boston: Harvard's H. Langford Warren - by Maureen Meister - Stonehurst, The Robert Treat Paine Estate

H. Langford Warren (1857-1917), one-time employee of H.H. Richardson, was a prominent Boston architect and educator. He founded the architecture program at Harvard University in 1893 and helped found the Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston in 1897. Maureen Meister examines the work of Warren and his colleagues within the context of a shared Arts and Crafts philosophy. She expands the scope of the Arts and Crafts Movement, traditionally typified by such proto-modern designers as Frank Lloyd Wright and Greene and Greene, to include the more conservative designs that prevailed in Boston in the late 19th century.

$7, Free for Friends of Stonehurst and members of the Society of Architectural Historians. For reservations, call (781) 314-3293. For more information, call or visit www.stonehurstwaltham.org or www.TheWorld.com/~NESAH.
