The Waltham leg of the Mass Central Rail Trail was still a work in progress as of fall of 2025. It will be continuous once a connection between Jones Road and Hillside Road is completed.
The rail trail enters Waltham and crosses a bridge over the Fitchburg Line of the MBTA commuter rail. From there it continues to Jones Road.

This portion of the rail trail begins at Hillside Road, crosses under Border Road, and continues east to Prospect Hill Road. Along the way was a mural in progress on the rear exterior wall of Waltham's Department of Children and Families office at 157 Overland Road. The project is by Boston-based muralist Sophy Tuttle.
